Bill Dermody was born in Hamilton and started working in the P.X. Dermody family funeral homes while he was in high school. He graduated from Cathedral Boys High School, studied at Western, McMaster and McGill universities and holds two law degrees. After a stint with the CBC in Ottawa, Bill returned home to Hamilton to offer families in the Greater Hamilton Area, and client families of the funeral home, much needed support in the areas of Estate Administration and General Counsel.
Bill, who is also trained as a grief support facilitator, is committed to our acclaimed “Estatecare” Estate Administration programs and regularly provides complimentary educational seminars in the Hamilton area and surrounding communities. In addition, he offers families informative “End of Life Care” Workshops and “Free Will Reviews”. Bill is married to Judy (nee McIntyre) and they are the proud parents of Erin and Clare.

The driving force behind the establishment of Estate-Help.ca passed away peacefully on November 6, 2014.
Shelly identified with the human experience of death, loss, grief and the need for help in navigating through the process of settling an estate. She supported and assisted countless families through the process with compassion and care, and she recognized that there are a lot more people out there who need help during a difficult time. She did not want them to walk alone. Thus, Estate-Help was born.
She is remembered by her colleagues, her peers, and the many people she educated and assisted as an intelligent helper, who had a charming personality, quick wit and a kind heart.
It is with pride that we honour her life and her legacy of continuing to help families by providing affordable access to information and help. We are here so you do not have to walk alone.

Nozomi (Zoe) Smith is a lawyer at Dermody Law in Hamilton. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2010 and joined Dermody Law in 2012. Her practice focuses on estate planning and administration. Zoe received her J.D. and LL.M. from the University of Toronto Law School; and her LL.B. and LL.M from Chuo University in Tokyo. Zoe is a native Japanese speaker and a regular speaker at estate planning seminars for the Japanese community in the Greater Toronto Area.

Joanne Brigmantas has called Hamilton her home since 2008.
She has many years of experience as a law clerk in estate administration, estate planning and estate litigation and related practices, in small and large firms, as well as with various branches of the Ministry of the Attorney General.
Joanne recognizes that in the emotional common experience of death and loss, each family and each estate is unique. Regardless of the dollar value of an estate, Joanne strives to help Executors create administration plans which are tailored to the simplicity or complexity of their situation while respecting the deceased’s wishes. Even estates with very little assets require care and attention. She shares her knowledge by educating Executors so they may confidently take leadership of the office they are about to hold.
Joanne has an interest in affordable access to legal services and has participated in the Law Commission of Ontario’s project for simplifying procedures for the administration of small estates. She is also intrigued by emerging concepts for end of life wishes, afterlife care and how to achieve them.

Danielle Griffiths joined us as an estates clerk in 2016. Danielle’s many years working in the estates field in Hamilton has provided her with excellent knowledge of estates law, processes and procedures. Danielle is proficient in the requirements of all applications and documentation forwarded to the Court and is also involved with preparation of court documents and liasing with the Court. Danielle worked as a senior law clerk at a large, respected law firm in Hamilton prior to joining Dermody Law and she has extensive experience in estate planning and administration.
